I believe 104 is new from yesterday.

Looks like they're splitting the development process to keep trunk stable, you'll now find a trunk/ and a testing/. |

irondog: link please? So you are saying XGL is no longer required once 7.1 is released? |

A while ago XGL moved from Novell's closed development labs to the CVS of Kdrive. After a few weeks it was merged into the repository of Xorg-x11 (branch xgl-0.0.1). This branch seems to be elected for the next release of xorg-x11's xorg-server.

I expect an XGL USE-flag for Xorg-x11 7.1. XGL can be built with xorg-server by specifying --enable-xglx at configure time.
Here is the release announcement:
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xorg/2006-April/014587.html
I don't know what is actually happening with the development of Xorg-x11. I'm seeing some remarkable things now:
1) It seems that the devellopers are pushing stable updates directly to the official mirrors serving the individual parts of modular X at any time between official releases.
2) Gentoo's xorg-x11 7.0 is quite different now than back in December 2005. Gentoo seems to be using modular X stable (individual) instead of modular X december 2005.
So, it looks like updating to 7.1 on Gentoo means we only have to update the xorg-server package. The other packages that belong to the 7.1 version are either unchanged or already installed using regular system updates.
Long live modular X! _________________ Alle dingen moeten onzin zijn.

I have a fresh fresh system with modular x and xgl, everything is as new as can be. I followed the wiki and I can get xgl to run in an already running x environment window PERFECTLY with kde. It looks glorious . But for the life of me I can't run it full screen. If I run the startxgl script from the command line:
/usr/local/xgl-coffee/startxgl 1 kde ati
It appears as if compiz and gnome-window-decorator don't start (no effects) and Xgl takes up 99.9% of the processor (i found out by using ssh into the machine and running "top").
Any advice? I'm so close I can smell it
Thanks,
Brian
P.S. I added more time to the sleeps already present in the startxgl script (all are 10 sec now) and added a sleep inbetween gnome-window-decorator and startkde, and used the -ng option:
/usr/local/xgl-coffee/startxgl 0 kde ati -ng
Yay . So pretty .
I can only run the script as root otherwise it fails to "lock" the screen by writing to a file in /tmp any ways around that? Also, after you end the kde session you must Ctrl Alt Bkspc to leave xgl/compiz/gnome-window-decorator (they are still running. |

I had that problem a while back. I deleted the lock file and rebooted, then logged
in with user account and the problem went away. Don't know if that was a proper
fix but it worked. _________________ Core i7 920 D0 | Asus P6T DLX | Patriot Viper 1600 6GB | Antec Quattro 850W

So I tried being adventurous and getting kdm to work under the same idea that sleeps just needed to be added. I followed the wiki instructions and modified the Xstartup file like so:
Code: |
sleep 15
compiz --replace decoration wobbly fade minimize cube rotate zoom scale move resize place switcher &
sleep 15
gnome-window-decorator &
sleep 15
|
But kdm just wants to show the login window before that Xstartup script loads. If I just knew how ServerCmd was used in relation to the Xstartup script if would be easier to figure out where to add sleeps and such. My conclusion is that without compiz or gnome-window-decorator loaded, you will be able to see window contents but with xgl owning 99% of your processor you can't do anything. O well, atleast I have the startxgl script working for now .
And deleting the tmp file did work. Thanks.

I am using GDM for starting KDE 3.5.2 and Gnome 2.12, with XGL/Compiz.
For KDE i created a "/usr/bin/compizrc" and made it executable "chmod +x"
#!/bin/bash
DISPLAY=:1 LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib/ compiz --replace gconf > ~/compiz.log 2>&1 &
sleep 1;
DISPLAY=:1 gnome-window-decorator > ~/gnome-window.log 2>&1 &
Then i added to /etc/env.d/99kde-env
KDEWM=/usr/bin/compizrc
Then edit /etc/rc.conf to start GDM
Hope this helps. _________________ Core i7 920 D0 | Asus P6T DLX | Patriot Viper 1600 6GB | Antec Quattro 850W

Does anyone else get poor OpenGL performance in Xgl?
On my machine (NVIDIA GeForce 6800) the framerate of OpenGL apps in Xgl is about 1/3 that of regular X.
In Xgl, with no window manager, no compiz or anything, glxgears gets 4600 FPS, whereas in X it gets 10,000 FPS. Similarly, Quake 3 in Xgl gets around 100 FPS average, 200 FPS peak, but gets 350 average in X, peaking at 600.
UT2004 doesn't even run properly in Xgl. The splash screen and the game itself seem to have weird alpha values or something, i,e, the white is transparent, and the game itself is unplayably choppy.
Comments in the previous Xgl threads lead me to believe that Xgl is meant to be at least as fast as X for running OpenGL applications. Am I wrong, or is this a common problem? |

I can play UT2004 under XGL very well!
Just run it on the Xorg-Server and not on the XGL Server!
The Xorg-Server is ":93"
U must run it as root, not as user, first export this:
Code: | export XAUTHORITY=`ps uax | grep Xorg | grep Xgl | cut -b 94-114`
DISPLAY=:93 ut2004 |

Hi guys,
is xgl-coffee.org down at the moment? Couldn't get it's subversion overlay. Are there any alternative mirrors out there? _________________ e17 documentation | Be free and use Jabber as your IM! | Combine IRC and IM |

I just installed the new nvidia drivers (and a new kernel) and I can not seem to run Xgl/Compiz anymore. Xgl and Compiz will start up, but whenever I try to start xterm or anything else it will crash with:
Quote: | X Error of failed request: GLXUnsupportedPrivateRequest
Major opcode of failed request: 143 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 16 (X_GLXVendorPrivate)
Serial number of failed request: 593
Current serial number in output stream: 594
|
This happens both rootless and when trying regularly. _________________ rubyforums | blog | boxwhore |

Anyone got the 3 plugins: miniwin, trailfocus and transset to work? I get an error that the libs cannot be found. Do I need to install any additional package for this?
/ok I read about the useflag Another question: Does Xgl work with aiglx use flag? _________________ Workstation: 5.1 SurroundSound, LIRC remote control; Laptop [IBM-T43]: patched sources, s2disk/ram, fingerprint sensor |

You need to start the X server first (probably unless you use the embedded xgl in the new xorg-server)
Those of use not using a DM just need to change ~/.xintrc like so.
Code: |
exec startxgl 1 kde ati -ng
# exec startkde
|
Then stype start x, which startx X, and then executes the uncommeted script of your choice. _________________ The solutions are easy. Its finding them that is hard. |

Heya Phlogiston, i have read here there is problems with the aiglx flag "causes
problems", however i have also read here
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_AIXGL#Cards_found_to_be_supported
that your video card works with aiglx. There is lots of good XGL info "ATI, XGL" at this blog
which is where i got my wallpaper http://moosy.blogspot.com/2006/03/drred-xgl-tweaks-part-1.html
