hi all im using kde-3.5.1 on amd64 build

composite and render accel options are configured correctly in xorg.conf, but when i start kde and go to control centre and window behavior i click on translucency and its fine as root but i get "alpha channel is not availbale" as user.

any ideas where to start

i'm getting the same message. didn't try as root though.
did you figure it out ?

no my mate said something about changes in the portage for gcc-4.1.0 so I am leaving it for a bit, i'll try to rebuild later in the week

Solved !!

Add

xcomposite

to your USE flags, and run;

emerge -uDv --newuse world

Arh......bugger it :cry:

The Kmenu->Kontrolpanel->Desktop->Window behaviour->Transperancy did in fact work after my other post........however, the settings are ignored. i get no shadows, and no transperancy.

Edit: I needed to restart KDE, before the changes are applied........now my windows fade in and out, like there is no tomorrow :D
