Hey guys,
I've got an option to run some code on a an IBM power5 processor and since that's an enhanced risc-based instruction set, would that be compatible w/ Suns' ultraSPARC processors, would the binaries for these two platforms be compatible? |

Uhmm... no...
Think about it. Power5 is a 64-bit PowerPC-based architecture ... UltraSparcII is Sun's 64-bit architecture, totally different to PowerPC64.
So no... it wouldn't work. Just as MIPS64 code won't work on an Alpha, dispite both architectures being 64-bit RISC. RISC is a design philosophy, not a specification.
ciaranm would be able to shed some more light on the subject, since he works with both Power5 and UltraSparc systems, AFAIK. _________________ Stuart Longland (a.k.a Redhatter, VK4MSL)
