Well, the title says it all. Just did a fresh install from GRP with the Gentoo 2006.0 discs, and for whatever reason cannot login as normal users or root via kdm. I emerged gdm, and I can log into kde through that, but any ideas what do I do to fix the kdm problem?

Know this is kinda tacky (replying to myself), but I have the same problem with klock. If I lock the screen, I know I am typing my password correctly, and klock won't let me back in - it keeps telling me I have typed it wrong. If I drop out to a prompt, I can kill klock from root, but this is less than ideal. Any ideas? The problem does seem to be centered around kde checking passwords. |

I found doing an `emerge -upvD world` showed that some packages needed to be upgraded / installed. I did that, and there was a package about kde and pam integration that when it was emerged, my problem went away.
Note for those who follow.
Athlon 64 processor (X2 actually)
Official Gentoo 2006.0 stage3 + GRP install
Problem: cannot login to kdm using my username and password that I know works
Solution: `emerge -upvD world` & then `emerge -uD world`
Problem solved! |
