hi,
i have a dell i8600 that i just got set up with gentoo. I have all the ACPI options built in to the kernel but have yet to figure out how to get them working. I did get cpu frequency scaling to work though :)

From what i've read @ http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/power-management-guide.xml?style=printable i need to apply the suspend 2 patch to my kernel to get suspension working. That looks awfully complicated. I have emerged acpid but i have yet to find a good tutorial on how to use it. Can i use acpid instead of suspend2?
I have created some scripts as described in a tutorial at gentoo-wiki but i cant figure out how to execute them. one of them is lid.sh which is supposed to suspend my system when i close the lid but it doesn't work. any suggestions? Also, i'm using kde, and in the control center-laptop battery, ACPI config and power control are not accessible =/

You can use the package suspend2-sources which is basically the usual gentoo-sources kernel with the suspend2 patch, no need to patch it yourself.
Take a look at http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Software_Suspend_v2.

Hope this helps.

yeah, i ended up doing that. I didn't know it was possible to just do make oldconfig and have my kernel settings carry over. I'm compiling now... ill see what happens i guess.

edit: ok i just rebooted with my new suspend2 kernel but when i do hibernate it says "Your kernel does not appear to have ACPI sleep support" ??

nvm, i think ive managed it.
