Since forever i've had 2 computers, one as server (running linux, redhat or mandrake) and to play with, and my main box running windows (2k/xp) for real jobs (watching divx, flashfxp, msn etc :)).

Problem with the ms box was it worked but wasn't exactly fun to play with, sure a new xp theme was fun but it isn't exactly exiting. And with the linux box that it was slow (PII 233 with 512mb ram), x worked buggy, programs didn't do what i wanted them to do etc, typical new linux user stuff i guess. Same thing happend those 2-3 times i treid linux @ my main box (duron 1ghz), it just didn't have the smoothness i was accustomed to desktop wise.

After upgrading my linux box to a athlon 750 2 week ago i descided to finally give gentoo a shot, i was bored, i had exams, so time a plenty :) And wow, i was amased, i started to work more and more on the linux box and finally last week installed it on my main box too. It installed perfectly, kernel compile went good, sound worked (took some playing though, they didn't mention in the desktop guide that alsa didn't like if you'd installed the emu10k1 in the kernel), i can watch my divx, i can surf great with mozilla, evolution is a good replacement for outlook and the fluxbox desktop has exactly the kind of performance and functionality i want in a desktop.

Main conclusion, Gentoo Linux rulez so hard even ms lovers can appreciate it!

Nice grave robbing there, diggin' up a two year old thread... :D

One would hope that such a clue as "upgrading to a AMD 750" would hint it out! ;)
