i installed gentoo a while ago, everything is great, and much more fast the fedora(i think!). but there is one problem i can't figure out why.
i got three operating system on my box(windows xp, fedora 3 and gentoo). the problem is everytime i boot into gentoo and it enable the network card as expect, but when i restart the computer and boot into windows or fedora, and those system can not start the network card. but i don't know why when switch off the main power supply of the computer then xp and fedora can start network card as normal.

is gentoo switch off network card in bios when computer is shutdwon or reboot? cause my network card is connect to a wireless router, when i use shutdown in xp and fedora i can still see the port connect to the computer still on( green light), however when use gentoo to shutdwon the computer the light is off. my LAN boot option is enable in BIOS.

Try setting RC_DOWN_INTERFACE in /etc/conf.d/rc to no.

Try updating your baselayout to an ~arch version (don't worry, it's pretty much perfectly safe, as long as you don't forget to move over the new files in /etc).

If you're new I wouldn't go mucking about with baselayout. And as that's the only idea I have..
