Yes, porthole is still maintained. I have a bunch of updates and feature enhancements nearly ready for a new release. I had hoped to have them done for around last Xmas or early January, but I have been too busy to finish them up.

I have a basic plugin done for etc-proposals that will work with porthole-0.5.0, but I have not yet made an ebuild. It will not auto-detect when it needs to run after emerges, but will add a menu entry to run it as root. I have not yet updated the cvs version plug-in code for all the changes that I have done. After that, perhaps I will be able to enable the plug-in to add an icon to the main toolbar when config updates are detected from the emerge output.

Björn, could you create an icon for etc-proposals, perhaps help me a little with the porthole plug-in for the next release?
I think I should start a new thread in Unsupported Software for this, rather than hijack this thread.

If I would, nobody would click on it. I rather ask my brother (whom I will meet today) - he got far better skills in that area.

GUI (I use porthole) are good if you dont know what you want
I fancied a game one day and I just used Porthole to browse through the games and read the DOC-note and check the webby link

BUT to maintain a system the command-line is quicker and more powerful

you can always check out gentoo-portage.com
