Hi there,

I'm trying to install my TT1 DVB-S card unter Gentoo but I've been running into some trouble:

Every time I try to load the module dvb-ttpci, I get the following error in the syslog:

Code:
Apr 15 16:23:35 server saa7146: register extension 'dvb'.
Apr 15 16:23:35 server ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:00:0a.0[A] -> Link [LNKC] -> GSI 12 (level, low) -> IRQ 12
Apr 15 16:23:35 server saa7146: found saa7146 @ mem c88e6000 (revision 1, irq 12) (0x13c2,0x0000).
Apr 15 16:23:45 server dvb-ttpci: could not load firmware, file not found: dvb-ttpci-01.fw
Apr 15 16:23:45 server dvb-ttpci: usually this should be in /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware or /lib/firmware
Apr 15 16:23:45 server dvb-ttpci: and can be downloaded from http://www.linuxtv.org/download/dvb/firmware/
Apr 15 16:23:45 server ACPI: PCI interrupt for device 0000:00:0a.0 disabled

However, the file exists in /lib/firmware:

Code:
server firmware # ls -la
total 248
drwxr-xr-x  2 root root   4096 Apr 15 16:32 .
drwxr-xr-x 10 root root   4096 Apr 15 15:15 ..
-rwxrwxrwx  1 root root 239956 Nov 24 01:37 dvb-ttpci-01.fw

I've tried to find a solution to this all day now, but as I'm quite new to DVB, I haven't found anything useful.

Make sure you've emerged hotplug and "Hotplug Firmware Loading Support" in your kernel.

Under 2.6.16, this option doesn't exist and using my current .config, I can't switch Hotplug Firmware Loading Support on:

Code:
  │ │           [*] Select only drivers that don't need compile-time external firmware              │ │
  │ │           [*] Prevent firmware from being built                                               │ │
  │ │           --- Hotplug firmware loading support                                                │ │

EDIT: This option is only possible to select if you drop DVB for Linux support in the kernel :(

But THAT I definitely need for DVB...

Okay, what I posted above was nonsense, nevertheless:

Hotplug firmware loading support IS enabled, same problem as before...:(

You didn't tell me if you have hotplug emerged or not :) So, have you?

I got a TT rev. 1.5 here which works:

Code:

saa7146: register extension 'dvb'.
ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:01:06.0[A] -> Link [APC3] -> GSI 18 (level, high) -> IRQ 21
saa7146: found saa7146 @ mem e0828000 (revision 1, irq 21) (0x13c2,0x0000).
DVB: registering new adapter (Technotrend/Hauppauge WinTV DVB-S rev1.X or Fujitsu Siemens DVB-C).
adapter has MAC addr = 00:d0:5c:03:2a:84
dvb-ttpci: info @ card 0: firm f0240009, rtsl b0250018, vid 71010068, app 80f62623
dvb-ttpci: firmware @ card 0 supports CI link layer interface
dvb-ttpci: Crystal audio DAC @ card 0 detected
saa7146_vv: saa7146 (0): registered device video0 [v4l2]
saa7146_vv: saa7146 (0): registered device vbi3 [v4l2]
DVB: registering frontend 0 (ST STV0299 DVB-S)...
dvb-ttpci: found av7110-0.

I got the firmware:

Code:

ls -lh /lib/firmware/
insgesamt 240K
-rw-r--r-- 1 sk users 235K  6. Apr 03:54 dvb-ttpci-01.fw

I got hotplug:

Code:

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild   R   ] sys-apps/hotplug-20040923-r1  0 kB

Cheers

mic

Hotplug is there, of course.

Code:
server ~ # emerge -p hotplug

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild   R   ] sys-apps/hotplug-20040923-r1
