|
|
Hi !
My current config is Xorg 7 + Xfce4. Yesterday i've decided to use XDMCP, that's why i've installed XDM.
Everything works fine except that when i try to shutdown/reboot the computer with the shutdown button of xfce4 (xfsm-shutdown-helper). That worked before installing XDM and if i kill XDM it works too.
In fact, when i click the button, the shutdown procedure starts:
- quit X
- quit XDM
- then it freezes it should start to stop all the modules but nothing happens.
If i 'su' then launch shutdown -h now, it works perfectly.
It seems there's a problem between XDM and the xfsm-shutdown-helper.
Noone else has the same problem ?

Yep i can but even if the keyboard seems to work, when i fill the login, the password question never appears ...
Found this in XFCE forums http://forum.xfce.org/index.php?topic=1411.0 , the symptoms are the same
Here is my .xsession-errors content :
Quote: | /usr/bin/startxfce4: X server already running on display :0
Agent pid 8372
** (xfwm4:8385): WARNING **: The display does not support the XComposite extension.
** (xfwm4:8385): WARNING **: Compositing manager disabled.
(xftaskbar4:8387): libxfcegui4-WARNING **: tray icon has requested a size of (1 x 1), resizing to (24 x 24)
No running windows found
** Message: xfce4-panel: Exit
The application 'Gecko' lost its connection to the display :0.0;
most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed
the application.
firefox-bin exited with non-zero status (1)
The program 'gaim' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)'.
(Details: serial 6045 error_code 3 request_code 10 minor_code 0)
(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
Agent pid 8372 killed

If you're using XDMCP that indicates you're accessing your box using X-forwarding over a network, correct?
Try logging onto the box using SSH and looking in the config files. I believe that shutdown, etc. is switched off for remote users by default. _________________ 0mFg, G3nt00 r0X0r$ T3h B1g!1111
Use sane CFLAGS! If for no other reason, do it for the lulz! |

Nope you're wrong
The problem is the same if launch the shutdown from a remote station or on the box itself ... |

I've found something weird : when it's freezed i can still switch sessions with ctrl-alt-Fx ... but when i switch on F7,
the shutdown process continues without any problem |
