Since ver 1.7 of krusader its samba support has stoped working.
I have the samba use flag in my make.conf file and I have also re emerged kdebase.

I have also tried to emerge kdebase-kioslave but it seems kdebase is blocking it.

Could someone please help me solve this problem?

Your help would be appreciated.

Jup, kde-base/kdebase-kioslaves with samba in USE is supposed to give you the kio slave.
Are you mixing split and monolithic ebuilds? In this case, you should consider to get rid of the old kdebase and use kdebase-meta, resp. only the packages you need, instead.

Hmm this is not a new install so it is possible that new and old builds are causing the problem.
How would I go about removing the old kdebase? just unmerge it?

I have unmerged it before I posted this problem and then emerged the kio-slave package but it did not work.
Could it be that some other package is causing it to fail?

Yes, just unmerge it, and "emerge kdebase-meta", to get all split packages. And better unmerge all the other monolithic ebuilds as well. Otherwise you'll sooner or later end up with another block. You might want to check The KDE Split Ebuilds HOWTO:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/kde-split-ebuilds.xml

Hmm hard to tell, got any error message?
Was the kio slave installed? -> /usr/kde/3.5/lib/kde3/kio_smb.so

Ok I have unmerged all the old kde packages and re-emerged krusader, which emerged kioslaves as a dependency but it still does not have samba support.

Any suggestions?

Ok I think I know what the problem is.
It seems that kio_smb.so is not in the 3.5 kde directory but only in the 3.4 dir.

I have not emerged Konqueror, so I cant test if it works there.

Ok I have solved the problem.
I unmerged all the kde packages and remerged kde so now krusader is using kde 3.4.
