I'm trying to use both Open Office and Azureus in KDE with my 64-bit AMD Athlon XP 3200+ machine. However, everytime I try to open any java program up I see the program down in the tool bar with the hour glass, indicating the program is loading. With both open office and Azureus they'll sit there for 5-15 seconds, then just dissapear from the tool bar.
This must have something to do with my java runtime environment, but I'm using the latest version of blackdown.
Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks. _________________ I am the darkness in your dreams and the bug in your soup.

First I'd try to launch them from console, you will be able to see any relevant error messages that get lost when launching from x.
I'm installing my new (and first) amd64 machine and openoffice wanted a 1.4 jre while I had installed the 1.5 jdk, it sounded stupid to me to have both, so I just set -java for the openoffice ebuild. Maybe you have a similar version problem? |

Ok, I run Open Office in the command line and I got the following error:
Inconsistency detected by ld.so: ../sysdeps/generic/dl-tls.c: 72: _dl_next_tls_modid: Assertion `result <= _rtld_local._dl_tls_max_dtv_idx' failed!
By following the directions on a Gentoo page (http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_AMD64), I deleted /usr/lib32/opengl/nvidia/lib/ and all works fine now.
I'm still have problems with Azureus, but I'll be back to post either a question or a solution for anyone else having the same problem.

Ok, I fixed the Azurues problem. I just re-emerged java-config, as recommended in this thread:

Thanks a lot! _________________ I am the darkness in your dreams and the bug in your soup. |
