Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone out thee is using a mobility radeon 7500 to play games, and I mean real games like ut2k3 and quake3...
If so, which drivers/experience/problems/comments etc...
BTW, I have a Thinkpad T30 that I would like to do some gaming on...

I play quake3 no problem on a Rage Mobility M4. That's several classes below your card I believe. I have to turn off some of the options (simple items, ejecting brass), but its above 60 frames pretty solidly.
I would say the quality of your screen is more likely to inhibit you than a radeon based card. |

I've used ut2k3 on a mobility 7500 without any problems, although I had to downsize some options. It works fine for a little fragging.

It is very possible, and it works beautifully...
Here's what I do on my Presario 2800T..
Upgrade to XFree86 4.3.0 (boosted me from 1000 FPS to 1600 FPS in a glxgears test)
Get the latest radeon DRI drivers from http://dri.sourceforge.net
Add:
---
Section DRI
Mode 0666
EndSection
---
to your XF86Config-4 and change the driver to "radeon"
It should work like a charm.. I can play Quake3 at full res no problem.. if you need help ask me

I have a Compaq Presario 2800T w/ ATI Radeon 7500 also. My Quake3 performance has been excellent since getting the latest DRI snapshot: with high quality + 1152x864 + high geometry + penultimate texture detail + fulll effects, I get maximal framerates.
Unfortunately, ST3C (??) doesn't work for me, so UT2003K is still out and Wolfenstein is a little bit slow compared to Quake3. How does one get ST3C activated, Roguelazer? |

No one gets S3TC 'cause it's patented..
S3TC/DXTC is only available in NV&ATI-CLosed-Source-drivers

That's unfortunate; at least Q3 runs like a dream.
Maybe ATI will release their own drivers for Radeon 7x00, but I'm not holding my breath.

How did you get ut2k3 to work? I have a mobility 7500 as well, but mine always bombs out with this message:
GL_EXT_bgra not supported - bailing out.
History:
Exiting due to error
Any ideas? I'm using the demo, not the full game. |
