I'm sorry if the information I'm looking for here is somewhere obvious and I just haven't found it, but I'm not totally sure what to look for.
I've got two systems at home running Gentoo, and I want to set up a simple network between them. I haven't had to do much in the way of networking to get Gentoo installed, because I still can't get broadband due to where I live, so I'm still using 56k. One system has an A7N8X board, and I've got the nforce-net module installed and working as far as I can tell. The other system has an Intel PRO 100+ card I've had for a while and never used, and it also seems to be working fine with the e100 driver. Basically, I'd just like to know what I need to do to set this up once it's all plugged in ![Smile :)](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) _________________ Per Ardua Ad Astra

Well depending on your hardware (if you have a hub/switch) you will need some network cables. If you do not want to use a hub or switch you can use a cross-over cable given you only have two PC's. Once they are physically networked to one another you just need to give them each an IP address on the same subnet. Most people generally use a non-routable IP address (something in 10.x.x.x or 192.168.x.x depending on what class of a subnet you want to use.) Since you are only going to be using two PC's I'd recommend something easy like 192.168.1.x. Basically you can just assign your PC's addresses on that subnet and you will be good to go. The rest of what you need to do is in the regular installation document.
Hope that helps!

I don't really want to buy a hub, so I'll just get the crossover cable. Once I've got the cable, I think I should be able to get it working. Thanks for the help

It's not that bad, really The worst bit was downloading all the sources the first time I installed it, which took a couple of days. After that, it's not too much trouble to keep things up to date. _________________ Per Ardua Ad Astra
