OK, I made the mistake of running nautilus and logging out of xfce4 without unchecking the Save Session option. Now every time I log in, I have only the blue-gray gnome background, and can't get the xfce menu at all.
I've tried but it doesn't do anything. If I run xfdesktop, the background I had originally returns, but after logging out (with save sesssion) and logging back in, I'm back to the broken desktop.
Any ideas how to fix this problem? |

OK, I figured this out:
I was running xfdesktop from a terminal, then closing the terminal, effectively doing the same as a Ctrl-C, so xfdesktop was not running. I ran it from the run command menu instead, and now it comes up the way it used to. But, is there any residual effect from what nautilus had done? How could I know if there was? |

There is no downside from having run nautilus. Xfce is modular and you can start/swap/close some of its modules (such as xfdekstop) with no ill effects. |

Hi there !
running nautilus with the --no-desktop option will only start the browser without the desktop
(That's the way the default Xfce4 menu bar is set ) |
