Hi I, am just asking, arround.
Earlier I had wol problems with oboard sis900. And solved it with some digging.
I have now same trouble with a 3c905 TX card. I searched google gentoo-forums tried evey trick I came across.
Is there anyone who got wol working on this card on a 2.6.15 kernel.
I know for sure my setup is correct. Because it worked with NLD 9 (Novell Linux Desktop) !!
This is a P3 system. I use it a frontend for mythtv which is great.
I prefer gentoo after getting used to it above NLD but when I switched this last box to gentoo I lost wol functionality.
And I really want this to work because I want to be able to wake this machine remotely through cronjob which alI functionend with the previous NLD setup.
So gets gentoo beaten by NLD ??
Or can anyone comeup with a solution ??
Any help is app. |

I'm writing this message to you from a box with a P3, running 2.6.15, using a 3com 3c905. I have 3c590/3c900 support built into my kernel and it works with no problems. Just in case you've missed it (which i doubt since you've 'tried every trick' already), it can be found at
Code: |
Device Drivers->
Network Device Support->
Ethernet (10 or 100Mbit) ->
[*] Ethernet (10 or 100Mbit)
...
[*]3COM cards
<*> 3c590/3c900 series (592/595/597) "Vortex/Boomerang" support

Thanks for the reply.
But the card is working with the 3c509x module. But its about the wol part, I tried every trick.
Ethtool does not work. I can put the card in sleep mode too with pci-config.
In fact I have 2 nics installed in this box both 3c509 (vortex) one onboard one in pci slot with wol wire to mainboard.
The wol part was functioning with NLD 9 on both cards !
I was just suprised that there seems little support for wol in gentoo. I consider wol a basic function and by tradition or by design the nic is essential for almost any linux distros.
So if anyone has wol working on this card, please tell me what I am missing.
Help is app. |

Ah, sorry
all I can suggest then is that you have a look at the rather brief wiki entry on this http://gentoo-wiki.com/Wake_on_lan
But I suspect you've probably already found it. But it has a few things to try if you hadn't |

Finally I got wol working on Gentoo.
I flashed the bios Its a HP vectra 400 box. After this flash wol started working on the realtek card.
All the cards onboard 3c90x 3c90x pci and the realtek did not work. Now I wil have to figure out if the onboard and the 3com pci are working too.
I never expected the bios update would solve it since booting NLD install before did not have this problem using the same bios ?
So everyone struggling with wol and gentoo check for bios upate. |
