I cannot get my printer working. (gentoo 2006.0; USB printer canon S450; gnome 2.12)

The result for the printer section using dmesg is :

usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2
drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: usblp0: USB Bidirectional printer dev 2 if 0 alt 0 proto 2 vid 0x04A9 pid 0x105D
usbcore: registered new driver usb-storage

The make of my printer is not mentioned in the dmesg output. Does it mean that it is not recognised ?

I tried as local printer and as cups printer but no success. I am not sure about what I have to supply in the URI. (USB:/dev/usb/lp0 or IPP:/dev/usb/lp0 does not work).

I changed to "debug" mode. This is telling me "no pages found".

Any suggestions or more info required ?

Thanks

I unmerged ghostscript-gnu and emerged ghostscript-esp.

I can print now from office or so. Printing from gimp is not possible. After I tried to print something from gimp, printing from office or so does not work anymore. When i reboot then the printer prints what i ordered before the reboot.

So i think the only problem left is printing in gimp.

I unmerged ghostscript-gnu and merged ghostscript-esp.With this the error "No pages found" disappeared.
I unmerged Gimp and reinstalled it. Now printing from Gimp works.
