|
|
The Gentoo install bootup and the old Win2k bootup seem to run in console (text) mode, but with a higher definion than the good old 80*32 characters. I'd like to use my Gentoo Linux in console mode sometimes with a high text resolution but I have no idea on how to do it or even to look for it. (The words "text" and "console" come up in too many search results.) Can anyone help? Thanks to all. |

What you're looking for is called "framebuffer." It lets you pack more text onto the screen, and to even have some graphics. You have to compile your kernel with framebuffer support. Search Google for "gentoo framebuffer" and you'll get some relevant hits from the forums and from Gentoo Wiki. _________________ Draft Windows-to-Linux Guide |

the thing you want is higher resolution in text mode, you must activade framebuffer for you system.
you could also add background images and other nice stuff. just search on frambuffer. I know there are som howtos on this forum aswell.
this link should help you:

Thanks, guys!
I'd seen the term "framebuffer" come up many times, but I didn't know what it was. I'll get on to it right now. Thanks again. |

I've been trying to get this to work, and am having difficulty, but it works fine on the installation cd. Is there anyway to copyover the configuration from the install CD, or at least see what its configuration is, so I can set it up similarly? |
