The problem started a while back, right after the last time I updated with . Every time I log in as root, including su (but not ) a few error lines pop up.
Code: |
thoth log # su root
configuration error - unknown item 'FAILLOG_ENAB' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'LASTLOG_ENAB' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'MOTD_FILE' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'FTMP_FILE' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'ENV_ROOTPATH' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'PASS_MIN_LEN' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'CHFN_AUTH' (notify administrator)
thoth log #
|
Similar lines also show up in the error logs in /var/log/messages
Code: |
Apr 23 20:51:55 thoth su[28147]: unknown configuration item `FAILLOG_ENAB'
Apr 23 20:51:55 thoth su[28147]: unknown configuration item `LASTLOG_ENAB'
Apr 23 20:51:55 thoth su[28147]: unknown configuration item `MOTD_FILE'
Apr 23 20:51:55 thoth su[28147]: unknown configuration item `FTMP_FILE'
Apr 23 20:51:55 thoth su[28147]: unknown configuration item `ENV_ROOTPATH'
Apr 23 20:51:55 thoth su[28147]: unknown configuration item `PASS_MIN_LEN'
Apr 23 20:51:55 thoth su[28147]: unknown configuration item `CHFN_AUTH'
Apr 23 20:51:55 thoth su[28147]: Successful su for root by root
Apr 23 20:51:55 thoth su(pam_unix)[28147]: session opened for user root by (uid=0)
|
If anyone knows what might be causing this and/or how I might fix it (beyond attempting another update) that'd be great.
These are all the symptoms I know of if you would like me to look any other place for errors I'll give it a go. |

Check this sticky topic It concerns problems when doing su to root. The error-messages are exactly the same as what you post here.
It appears that the first thing to try is to run
Note that you always have to do that after an emerge update. |
