Battle for Wesnoth save errors (1.0.2)

OK, what have I missed?

Battle for Wesnoth 1.0.2 emerged and plays just fine, but I am unable to save a game. I get:

The files should be stored in ~/.wesnoth/data. This problem looks really strange to me. Maybe you want to try the dev version if it has the same problem. Get the ebuild from http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/WesnothBinariesLinux#Gentoo and try it. Be aware that the packages wesnoth-dev and wesnoth-svn are masked. So you have to use ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge wesnoth-dev after adding the ebuild to your portage overlay if you are running a stable system. If you continue to have problems you should also try to ask in the "official" wesnoth forums. But your problem really sounds like a permission problem to me.
