|
|
I've got a box with an adaptec aic7899 and another aic7902 scsi card.
I've got the following in my logs:
Code: | kernel: SCSI error : <2 0 0 0> return code = 0x10000
Apr 24 14:12:35 kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev sdn, sector 8
Apr 24 14:12:35 kernel: Buffer I/O error on device sdn, logical block
1 |
Does this mean my disk is faulty? Apart from cable, scsi adapter is there anything else it could be? driver?
When I do fdisk -l /dev/sdn my term hangs and I can't get it back.... this happens for everything from sdn-sds... _________________ The Human Equation:

humbletech99,
I've deleted your earlier thread, since you didn't get any answers there.
As you say, aic7899 and aic7902 are scsi cards. Therfore the drives they host will be /dev/sd? not /dev/hd?
Your error Code: | end_request: I/O error, dev sdn, sector 8 | is probably software related, since sector 8 is outside any filesystem on the drive, so can only be used by a few specialised applications. e.g. dd, grub, EZDrive ...
What command gave rise to the error ?
What fdisk -l did you really do ? _________________ Regards,

It happens all the time in the logs and starts straight after boot up. The disk is really gammy... gonna try changing it... _________________ The Human Equation:

humbletech99,
Typo for "to a". Block 8 should be read once (if at all) at boot by grub and never by the kernel.
The kernel is not even started at that time and cannot log anything. It would be interesting to know what was doing the read. _________________ Regards,

replaced disk, i officially hate scsi disks, especially with linux, in the last 5 months I've had to replaced over a dozen failed/dodgy disks (probably closer to 2 dozen). anyway it's ok now thanks... _________________ The Human Equation:
