I am trying to use ssh or ftp to login to my machine remotely as a user. When I try to log in, I am told the the password is wrong. I retype e x t r e m e l y carefully, double check by using the same password from the console, but I still get refused. I cannot login using ssh to localhost from the console either. BUT, I CAN login as root. I've looked at a few posts and wandered around in the logs (which I don't completely understand either-metalog), but haven't found anyone with this problem. I'm using Pure-FTP, and openssh. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong, and how I can fix it?

Check if you have a valid shell in /etc/passwd |
