When will kde 3.5 become stable?

I remember those days, when it would only take a few weeks (at most) for kde to become stable for x86 etc. That were the kde-3.1.x/3.2.x-er times. Now let's take a look at Kde-3.5. Kde-3.5 was released upstream at 29 November 2005. Today is the 26th of April 2006. That's 5 months!!! And there is no sign of kde-3.5 becoming stable. Of course one can always switch to ~x86 but why in gods name, do all other distros include kde-3.5 in their stable branches while our distro -- once renowned for being bleeding-edge -- still marks it as "testing".

Even though I name KDE as an example this applies to many packages, for example gcc where it took years for gcc 3.4.x to become stable (though I understand the issue with gcc, since it has such an important role in a compile-from-source-distro) etc. This has become somewhat symptomatic for gentoo. X.org 7.0 is marked testing. KDE-3.5.x is marked testing ... You have to put a hunderd packages into /etc/portage/package.keywords to get a reasonably up-to-date desktop. What happenend to the portage tree? Will it become like debian where you have to run a mixture of testing and unstable packages to be up-to-date?

And KDE 3.5 has been stable for most of those 5 months, I've been using it for the last 2 without any problems... yet, at least.

When I switched over someone had sent me a message for an easy way to get kde 3.5 up and running on your system without going through every package (this will also remove any older version of kde):
