I'm trying to start ath0 and I keep getting "kernel panic - not syncing: ifmedia_set" on the console. I don't get any errors whatsoever in the logs to help debug this. Any ideas? Any recommendations on what I can set to turn on excessive messages until I get this figured out?
lspci -v:
02:07.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5212 802.11abg NIC (rev 01)
Subsystem: D-Link System Inc D-Link AirPremier DWL-AG530 Wireless PCI Adapter
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 168, IRQ 11
Memory at fde00000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K]
Capabilities: [44] Power Management version 2
SW Versions:
sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.6.16-r4
net-wireless/madwifi-ng-0.1502.20060414
net-wireless/madwifi-ng-tools-0.1502.20060414
net-wireless/wireless-tools-29_pre9
I had the same issue using gentoo-source-2.6.15-r1 and the released madwifi drivers. I've never been able to get this card to work. I'd like to set up an AP but I thought I'd follow the wiki to get it working but that failed miserably too. |

I'm not trying to be a troll, but don't buy D-link hardware: problem solved.
They are subpar and have been known to screw people over. Please do not support D-link. |

I guess noone else has seen this error? I can start ath0 once but if I stop it, then start it again, I get the kernel panic. As mentionned, there are no other messages on the console and there are no messages whatsoever in the messages file. |
