Darn subject length limits! What I meant to say was:
Upgrading to nptl-only glibc-2.4 - will it cause binary compatibility problems with older apps?
i.e. If I upgrade to glibc 2.4, will old/older binary-only apps that were written on a linuxthreads-based glibc stop running? I know NPTL is meant to be binary compatible with linuxthreads, but still there may be corner cases and stuff....
If there are problems, a 'no-nptl-linuxthreads-only-glibc-compat' ebuild in Portage would be nice (like the emul-linux stuff for amd64).
Thanks |

I'm using glibc-2.4 for a few weeks on my desktop and I have _no_ problems with it. I think you should try, and in case something goes wrong you will downgrade.
Btw. what do you mean by "older apps"? I upgrade my software quite often. |

Older binary apps, e.g. old Loki games. |

I can't get SimCity to run on 2.4 with nptlonly. I'm trying to find a solution, but alas, I haven't found one yet. _________________ It's fun to take a trip

Ah, thanks for that.
I suppose I'll just create a chroot for old games then.
Heh... a 32-bit glibc-2.3 chroot running inside a 32-bit glibc-2.4 chroot running inside a 64-bit environment. Sounds good :-) |
