|

edit: RTFM works wonders! http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Install_firefox_with_java_on_amd64[/b]
I'm on a amd64 system (I know from other threads there are issues with java and firefox 64)
so I emerged the following (I did not have any version of firefox before this emerge):
www-client/mozilla-firefox-bin
Latest version available: 1.5.0.2
dev-java/sun-jdk
Latest version available: 1.4.2.10-r2
(with the following use flags "USE="X alsa browserplugin mozilla nsplugin")
I then ran:
Code: |
flyers ~ # /usr/sbin/env-update && source /etc/profile
|
Code: |
flyers ~ # java-config -L
[sun-jdk-1.4.2.10] "Sun JDK 1.4.2.10" (/etc/env.d/java/20sun-jdk-1.4.2.10) *
|
Set up my user env with java-config and here is my current env while logged in as my user:
Code: |
allen@flyers ~ $ export | grep JAVA
declare -x JAVAC="/opt/sun-jdk-1.4.2.10/bin/javac"
declare -x JAVA_HOME="/opt/sun-jdk-1.4.2.10"
|
All of this looks like it's installed right but when I try to load a java applet from a webpage I get "missing plugin"

I've seen referances to this before but I have no idea what you mean. The only "about" I can find in firefox is Help>About Mozilla Firefox and I see no plugin option on any of the menu's.

I see.
Default Plugin
File name: libnullplugin.so
The default plugin handles plugin data for mimetypes and extensions that are not specified and facilitates downloading of new plugins.
No java plugin it would seem. I just was looking at that link you posted. Good stuff I'll RTFM and see how it goes |
