Hi,

How can I get fvwm to use a different configuration? Currently I'm using fvwm-crystal and my intention is to write an own config. But I do want to do this with X. So I start a new X after every change with:

Code:
XSESSION="fvwm2" startx -- :1 vt8

But how can I get fvwm2 to use an other config, than the default (.fvwm/...)? The help says with: "-f <file>"

Neither
Code:

XSESSION="fvwm2" startx -f <file> -- :1 vt8

nor
Code:

XSESSION="fvwm2 -f <file>" startx -- :1 vt8

are working :/

What can I do?

Of course that one will work -- I suspect it's because you're doing:

Code:
XSESSION="fvwm2 -f ~/.fvwm/somefile" [....]

When you really want:

Code:
XSESSION="fvwm2 -f $HOME/.fvwm/somefile" [...]

If not, actually posting the exact command, rather than a paraphrase of what you've tried would help (hint: anyone can read the man page for syntax).

This is not the reason. THis night I found out, whats wrong with that command more precisely:

.xinitrc
Code:

fvwm-crystal

This file somehow overwrites the command
Code:

startx fvwm2 -f /home/user/fvwm/fvwm/config -- :1 vt8

Is it possible to ignore the .xinitrc when starting X? At least I can start my new config now: I just edit the .xinitrc...
