|

Hi,everyone
sorry but do not know which kernel would work best for me. I Use my PC for gmplayer, gxmame, zsnes, epsxe, and other games, and firefox along with Openoffice 2.2?
And What emulation software would work best if i need to emulate windows for 3D games that i could not use with cedega/wine because i heard of both Xen and vmware are very good and win4lin would not do what i need to do?
Thank you _________________ I can not stand Microsoft Windows |

They're not going to make much difference. If you have to ask, just stick with gentoo-sources.

Neither vmware or Xen are suitable for 3D games right now. |

hello jmlxg,
It really doesnt matter that much, I recommend gentoo-sources (stable and supported by the gentoo devs) or if you really wanna stay on the safe side just use the vanilla sources. However if you find that you really want that extra speed (at the possible expense of your machine becoming unstable) you could check out the ck-sources.
There are loads of kernel patchsets to choose from so check out http://gentoo-wiki.com/Kernel_Sources for the whole lot .
VMware can use your 3d hardware to a very limited degree but from what I read, games are not accelerated enough to be playable. Xen is mostly aimed at servers allowing you to run multiple guest OS's on a single host. Cedega is your best bet imho, you just need a FAST cpu and a nice bit of ram since case in point was that my AMD 2500+ XP was unable to manage the emulation without a performance hit. With cedega as cheap as it is if you have the hardware go for it . _________________ Trust is a weakness |

Thought i did once try glxgears in Vmware and it uses opengl and i got 1/4 of the performance so yeah it is limited. Thought what is the deal with Xen?
I am so lucky not to have a dell pc which would stink if i did have one. ![Laughing ](images/smiles/icon_lol.gif) _________________ I can not stand Microsoft Windows |
