I've made an emerge --deep --world but had the good idea to stop it before it ends and have rebooted between the installation of two packages
Now when i try to log in, the login prompt appears, i enter it and then password prompt never appears, a few seconds later, the login prompt appears again. My password is never asked and there is no error message ...
I've entered [I] during boot to enter interactive mode and opened a shell (the root password is accepted). I've been able to continue the emerge --world --deep (it isn't finished yet) but i still can't login (53 packages left to emerge)
I really don't want to reinstall all my system ... Plz help me !! |

After you will finished check file /var/log/emerge.log which contains the informations about what you emerged. Try to find out which package was not emerged properly and re-emerge it. I guess that it should be sys-apps/shadow - utilities dealing with user accounts
EDIT:
And BTW if you want to continue interrupted emerge world you should use emerge --resume command. See man emerge |

this is no valid portage command. --world is not a flag. Please tell us exactly what you've typed |

You're right --world is not a flag but there is no error message and that's what i've typed.
I should have typed : emerge --update --deep --newuse world instead (i'll do that tonight) but it will not solve my problem, i think |
