Hi everyone,
I have a pinnacle PCTV studio (bt878) card, it was working great but, since I've reinstalled my system from scratch, I get just noise on the audio...
I've tried to configure the audio driver by two ways, first, using alsaconfig, but it can't find the sound card, and second, "by hand", changing configurations on /etc/modules.d/alsa, adding the card as snd-card-1, and /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6, to load automaticly the driver, but it not seems to work, the driver is up, but still just noise, I even thought that maybe the card could be damage, but on mandriva 2006 the sound is working...
anyone experienced something like that? or have a link that shows how to configure this in the "right way"... _________________ nasci pelado, careca e sem dente, o que vier é lucro |

esperto,
How do you get the sound from the TV-Card to your Sound Card ?
The bt878 can do sound capture over the PCI bus but this normally doesn't work because there are so many different ways of setting up the card. Spme manufactuers do not even include the extra parts to provide this functionality. Its more normal to use a short wire from the TV-Card to the Sound Card input and get the sound to the sound card that way.
Which do you use ?
For either, to recover the broadcast sound, your TV application needs to be set to the right TV standard and the right channel groups for your area. This is because the difference between the Vision and Sound carriers is used as the intermediate frequency to recover the sound. If you choose the wrong settings here, you will receive video OK but you will not get sound. You might get noise though.
You say it works in Mandriva ?
Copy the settings from Mandriva to Gentoo, for both the TV application and the ALSA setup, it should then work in Gentoo too. _________________ Regards,

I use the short wire from the TV card to my sound card. I didn't find the setting on mandriva yet, because they use different files, but I'm looking for...
After reading what you write bring me a doubt, its necessary the snd-bt87x driver to get the TV working? _________________ nasci pelado, careca e sem dente, o que vier é lucro |

esperto,
snd-bt878 enables sound capture (without the wire) on those bt878 based TV-Cards that
a) have sound capture properly designed
b) have been reverse engineered so that Linux can set them up.
I have two bt878 based cards and neither work this way.
Code: | less /usr/src/linux/Documentation/video4linux/bttv/Sound-FAQ | is a good place to start reading. _________________ Regards,
