Firstly, thank you to Daniel Robbins and the Gentoo team for one of the most exciting Linux distros to come along in some time ... it was even enough to distract me from FreeBSD
I have a little problem concerning XFree86 4.2/KDE 3. startx works fine when running under root, but not under an ordinary user account. Permissions on /tmp are to blame (only writeable by root), which in turn messes up DCOP and everything else. I don't feel like changing the permissions until I know the proper way to do address this, and I have not been able to locate any postings on this subject nor does the desktop guide seem to mention this. FreeBSD has an xwrapper tool which comprehensively handles the issue of non-root users running X, is there any equivalent?
Many thanks.
