Hi. I'm trying to run Windows programs with Wine ona 64 bit, dual core system, but I've got problems with LOTS of applications, including ie6, Google Earth (and yes I've used the Howto). Ie6 gives this output:

Code:
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="advpack=n" wine ie6setup.exe
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000000 at address 0x5575e2fe (thread 000c), starting debugger...
WineDbg starting on pid 0xa
Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x00000000 in 32-bit code (0x5575e2fe).

Code:
emerge wine -pvt

I've already tried different wine versions, and the use flags seem OK...

Code:
emerge --pretend --verbose wine

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Quote:
A chroot environment allows you to enter a 32-bit evironment in linux and run many 32 bit programs just as if you had installed the entire system 32 bit - but directly from your 64 bit kernel, so you can quickely and easily switch back to your 64 bit environment.

I would not attempt to run wine on a native 64-bit install, but I'm no expert in that area.

I picked that up from https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=168100

From what I was picking up in this forum, no one runs Wine in their pure 64-bit environment (probably because it doesn't work so well). Unless you have the 64-bit version of Internet Explorer (from the 64-bit version of Windows), I think it may be REAL hard for wine to run and emulate a 32-bit windows program.

http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_AMD_64#Setting_up_a_32bit_chroot_environment

Hmmm... Not exactly straightforward :-(

I'll give it a go when I have time

Thanks for your help

sorry cant help much, i just took wine-0.9.9 and then followed this WIKI site and VOILA , IT WORKS for the FIRST TIME REALY useful ! not perfect but very useful and just 1 step from perfect, have you already checked your hardware ?? eventually you got any damaged hardware ? may this be possible ? i just followed EXACTLY the steps within this URL :

http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Install_GoogleEarth_with_wine

and now even the terrible -= menu hiding =- bug has disappeared wooohooooo **smile**

you also should check your 3d setup, have you got fully working 3d ?

glxinfo | grep rendering

if yes appears, everything should be fine, what about the rest, have you recently changed your GCC ? so you also should recompile your hole system "emerge -uvaDN world"

if none of those tips are helping you to come further i am out of advices... GOOD LOOK

// this is forums.gentoo.org , not weallhavefunwithcars.com //

Wine 0.9.10 doesn't work in the native 64 bit enviroment, nor does it in the 32 bit one, since jpeg, which is pulled in as a dependency from wine, fails to emerge ...

HELP!!!!!!

Thanks

IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!
But...

Where on earth is the .wine folder??????????

I've followed this HOW-TO: http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/base/amd64/howtos/index.xml?part=1&chap=2
And I want to add a dll file...
And I can't find the .wine folder
There isn't one to be precise. I've done a search for it
HELP!!!!!!!
