texmacs octave maxima gnuplot plotting works out of the box?

I like texmacs. I find it great for authoring technical memos and such. I like to use the maxima CAS right in a document.

Right now though, if I want to make a plot I have to do it in say matplotlib running in a seperate ap (i use scite for that by the way). If I could get gnuplot or maxima or octave to plot in texmacs I'd use them, but this functionality doesn't work for me.

Is this a known problem or did I do something wrong? I wonder if other people use these things and they just worked out of the box or if they had to tweak it.
