|
|
When my hard drive (IDE) is used heavily my computer freezes a few minutes into the process. If I am in X everything except the mouse freezes initially, the mouse freezes soon afterward. When not in X, I can Alt+F# and the keyboard will work, but nothing I type does anything. If I try to ssh into the box, it connects but nothing else, no login, no anything. I have to do a hard reset.
In X I have gkrellm open and monitor the temperature, it isn't overheating. And there is nothing of any use in the logs.
This hasn't been a major issue, though it has happened before when copying files on the same drive, but I recently picked up an external USB enclosure for an IDE hard drive which I wanted to use to make backups. I can copy 100 or so megs to it, then the computer freezes.
Does anybody have any suggestions? I am out of ideas. |

What kernel are you using? Have you tried vanilla-sources? |

I switched to vanilla and everything works fine now! I was using gentoo-sources, I suppose I'll compare the kernel configs to find the exact problem sometime.
Anyway, thanks for the suggestion. |
