Hello, I just installed Gentoo AMD64 on my computer. I have some Linux experience from Ubuntu, but I have a few problems that prevent me from getting my system up and running. I followed the AMD64 2006.0 install guide. I burned the AMD64 package CD and put it in the drive, but whenever I try to mount the CD drive (with any cd) I get an error similar to "Special Device /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 does not exist". Also, my network interface seems messed up. When I boot, it attempts to configure my network with dhcp, but dhcpcd gives me an error simialr to "netmount not started". I believe my network worked earlier because I started to install gnome, but that was around midnight :) .

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Other Things Gentoo.
Postinstallation problems.

Edit your fstab and change the cdrom entry to point to the device that represents your cdrom drive. You should be able to find that in the output of dmesg, but you could try /dev/cdrom, /dev/hdc or /dev/hdd. It's usually one of these.

Thanks, my problem is partly solved. My CD drive was listed as hda because I plugged the cables in incorrectly. I always wondered why my hard drive was hdc :) .

I still have problems with my network however. Are there any tools other than dhcpcd that can configure it?

You could read how to configure the network manually from the installation handbook, I suppose.
