Hi then in the Gentoo-Forums.
What is your version of sys-apps/hal?
The S-E K750i has a filsystem bug (don't ask me for details, please). I had to emerge sys-apps/hal-0.5.7 for it to automount properly. Now it's working fine.

well, does it work?
probably you did not restart the hal service. the easiest thing is to reboot. after that, hal should be able to identify the correct mount options. if it does not work by then: 1. try another usb-storage device (stick, mp3-player, ...) and see if that one works. maybe there's a problem with permissions. 2. check dmesg whether your kernel correctly detects the device.
btw. do you have bluetooth? i do everything by that now. it's much slower, but i have no cables lying around.
