This occurs during partitioning. Thanks,

I hear the graphical installer's partitioner is b0rked, among other things... I would recommend you try the CLI-installation by following the CLI installation guide verbatim.

I can't install at all anymore. I use Norton PartitionMagic 8 to partition. My Win Parts are fine, but it messed up my Unallocated space. Please help, I desperatly need it. I don't want to mess with my working win partition, how can I fix the linux/unallocated ones?

I've heard that the partitioning code in GLI throws a tantrum if the partitions are in the wrong order on the disk.

Can you post the output of
Code:
# fdisk -l

The important thing to look at is where each partition starts and ends.

Disk /dev/sda: 100.0 GB, 100030242816 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 12161 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 1 6 48163+ 6 FAT16
/dev/sda2 * 1288 12161 87345405 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/sda3 12162 12162 2551+ 83 Linux

Note that there are some huge problems with my partitioning software. My windows partition workd fine, I do not want to have to reformat. The first partition, sda1, is a Dell Support partition. It used to be a hidden part of the computer, it now appears as a drive in Windows. Minus that, I have no real changes in windows.

I am going to try to fix this if possible. I was planning on deleating partition 3 and then seeing if that helped, but I will wait for your response before continuing.

No wonder you are having problems.

First of all, /dev/sda3 is off the end of the disk. You should delete that partition.
Second, you have about 10GB of empty space between /dev/sda1 and /dev/sda2. If you plan on installing Gentoo there, you will have to do it manually. GLI cannot handle partitions that are out of order like that.

Thanks. Yeah, the 10GB is exactly for that purpose. Thanks so much. I will try this now.

One final question: Will writing the changes harm my windows partition if i do nothing to it? (Deleating the third partition) I assume it won't, but with the recent problems, I had no idea what to do.

Writing the changes should be fine, as long as you don't try to modify the Windows partition (/dev/sda2).

Thanks. Everything works again, after deleating sda3 I got back into Norton and was able to compleate the changes there.

If there is a perfectly partitioned area before sda2 (Three sections, 2 formatted in ext3, one in Linux-Swap, all perfect sizes), would I have a problem mounting in the GLI, no partitioning required?

I am assuming it is OK and proceeding with installation. Thank you very much for all of your help!
