PostPosted: Sun May 07, 2006 8:10 pm    Post subject: [SOLVED] X crashes with nVidia Geforce GT6800LE Reply with quote

Hi everybody. I got myself a shiny new nvidia geforce 6800LE.
But as i tried to start X with the graphics card, X just froze over. Had to hard reboot to get things working again.
It works fine booting up in text mode. And i can use the computer but not start x.
I thought i could be the fact that i only have a 350 W PSU. But according to the manual for the graphicscard it should be sufficient.
I havent tried it with the nvidia driver yet, that could be an option... I'm running amd64 stable. With kernel 2.6.15-r7.
Anyone got a clue?
Maybe buying a new (better) PSU could help?

As it could be hardwarerelated, heres my specs for the computer.

*UPDATE
I solved my problem by emerging the newest unstable nvidia-kernel.

Code:

Noname 350 W
ASrock Dual SATA (with the ULi chipset)
AMD Opteron 146 running at 2500MHz
512 MB of Kingston DDR443
Western Digital Raptor 36 GB
Maxtor 120 GB
Nec 3450 DVD+RW
And atm a Geforce 4 MX 440 (don't mock me :/)

And here is xorg.conf
Code:

Extintor,

Remove Option "NvAGP" "2" from your xorg.conf and let X work out where to get its agpgart code from.
Also, post your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file after the freeze. You will need to preserve it with
Code:
mv /var/log/Xorg.0.log /var/log/Xorg.0.nvidia

Post the /var/log/Xorg.0.nvidia file.

I will and thanks =)

Here it is, but luckily it worked out. I had some issues with the nvidia-kernel driver, changed it to the unstable (~amd64) and it all worked out.
Got OpenGL and everything working :)
