I do have a problem that I can't resolve on my own : I tried to set up midi with alsa, but I got no sound using amidiplay. My sound card is a PCI SBLive! which is supposed to have some hardware synthetizer, so I compiled my kernel using alsa with sequencer support.

So there are two sequencer in my /dev : /dev/audio/sequencer and /dev/audio/sequencer2 (don't know if this is normal or not...), and my primary user is in the audio group ("normal" sounds plays well and I listen my mp3s for months).

At boot, I start alsasound and esound, and alsamidi -l gives me :

Code:
Port    Client name                      Port name
 16:0    EMU10K1 MPU-401 (UART)           EMU10K1 MPU-401 (UART)
 17:0    Emu10k1 WaveTable                Emu10k1 Port 0
 17:1    Emu10k1 WaveTable                Emu10k1 Port 1
 17:2    Emu10k1 WaveTable                Emu10k1 Port 2
 17:3    Emu10k1 WaveTable                Emu10k1 Port 3

But when I try to play a midi, there's no sound... I emerged rosegarden, and when I try to play a midi using it, I can see the sound levels going up and down on the pseudo-decibelmeters, but still no sound... Any idea?

You need to load the soundfonts into the SB Live sound card, with:
Code:
emerge awesfx
asfxload -V100 8mbgmsfx.sf2

8mbgmsfx.sf2 will be on your original SB Live installation CD.

yep : that's it!

I've read the howto about alsa on the site, and emerged awesfx, but I think I didn't load the right .sf2 file (there was many sf2 files on my windows disk...)

thanks!!
