After three days of working on Gentoo, I am done installing it. GRUB loads both it and windows right. However, I still cannot use it because the graphics are messed up:

In GRUB, I see absolutly nothing, or just a few dots (square pixel dots). I know that Win is first and Linux second on the list, so I can proceed, however, until leaving Linux/Grub, nothing looks right. In Linux, the text is all choppy and I cannot read any of it. I can tell that it is giving the green OK's, but I can't do anything because I cannot read it. Why are they so messed up? I think it may have to do with GRUB, because I can tell the text is the same way when it shows the Windows Boot Params (about a second before it boots Windows, then the Win Graphics take over.

Thanks,
Dylnuge

Yes, and to be more specific, the splashimage line in your grub.conf . If the path is wrong here, it will corrupt the screen instead of displaying the colorful background image.

The quick and easy fix is to get rid of the splashimage line.

I've checked, the line seems right. If I get rid of it, what will happen? I can't use the standerd prompt boot screen I was getting before, as I don't know how.

The screen worked once before. Should I try reinstalling grub (emerge grub) and then seeing if that updates the splash image so it works?

You will have a black and white menu instead of a colorful one

... and the text will be readable.

All right, that worked, but I have a new problem. Now when loading Linux it gives me an error about the filesystem not working or failing to load. Is this in GRUB too? I will post the exact message in a minute, I need to reboot and copy it down.

Okay, here is the message:
Code:
Fsck.ext3: No such device or address while trying to open /dev/hda6
Possibly non-existant or swap device?
Filesystem could not be fixed :(
Enter root password for maintnence (or press Control-D to continue)

It is important to point out that my hard drive is not hda, but sda. However, I see no problems with my grub config for Gentoo (Note, Boot is sda7, root is sda6)

title=Gentoo Linux
root (hd0,5)
kernal whatever (this is from memory, but that stuff is right), root = /dev/sda6

Why is it trying to open /dev/Hda6 and not Sda6? When i use install-grub it gives me that confirm thingy that says hd0=/dev/sda.

It looks like you have /dev/hda6 listed somewhere in your /etc/fstab.
