My problem is that my ethernet card (Marvell Gigabit) will work while in linux, but after a proper shutdown it will not work in windows. I have tried both the skge and the sk98lin drivers and this made no difference. If I kill the computer from linux without a proper shutdown then the ethernet adapter will once again work in windows. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas? |

I had similar issues in a Gigabyte AMD64 (nForce chipset) mobo half a yera ago.
A BIOS update and a Windows update brought the solution. I guess you already did the second one, so try upgrading your BIOS as well. I think it is definitely not a Linux issue. _________________ format c:

I am almost positive it is a linux issue because I did not have the issue before I loaded 2006.0. Back when I was on 2005.x it was working perfectly, and I have made no changes to the BIOS since then. Also I can clearly see that the connection entirely breaks anytime that I run /etc/init.d/net.eth0 stop. It is not simply just stopping the interface but turning it off. I noticed this because the connection light on my router turns off when I do this. |

Alright, I'm pretty sure that linux caused the problem because it didn't use to shut it down entirely, but I did find a setting in the BIOS that turns it back on, so thanks for the help. |

I think it was/is a kernel issue. It must change something in the card when shutting it down, which the BIOS cannot touch. If you have a card similar to mine:
Code: | lspci|grep Marvell
02:0b.0 Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88E8001 Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 13) |
then you can try the SKGE driver instead of the SK98LIN. Somewhere I have read that SKGE (SysKonnect GigaEthernet) is a better driver for these cards. _________________ format c:
