Ok, I never would have imagined in my wildest dream I would complain about my computer booting too fast, but it's what is happening to me right now.

I just switched to my brand new SATA 2 drive.

As I had compiled and configured everything to work fine once it was on the sata drive when I had the lended ide one, I just did a stage 4 and booted off the new hard drive.

Now I am hiting a weird issue.

When I boot up, I never see eth0 comming up. Once I login, if I check, it's up, but I never get the message that it came up.

During boot, I have nfsmount start to mount things like /usr/portage and /home from my file server. However, right now, that gives me an error saying that eth0 wasn't started. Basicaly, it tries to start nfsmount too fast, before eth0 as had a chance to come up.

What I have done is remove net.eth0 completly from the boot sequence. Then, when nfsmount tries to start, it as to start eth0 before it does and it actualy waits for it to be started. However, this fells like a rather strange workaround to me.

Anyone as a more gracefull solution?

In the file /etc/conf.d/rc

Change this line to yes.

RC_NET_STRICT_CHECKING="yes"

add net.eth0 to your boot runlevel.
