|
|
I've been working on installing Gentoo on my iBook for a while and I finally finished and got to the reboot part and it started again and went like this:
Quote: | Welcome to yaboot version 1.3.13
Enter "Help" to get some basic usage information
boot: Linux
Please wait, loading kernel...
hd:3,/boot/kernel-genkernel-ppc-2.6.15-gentoo-r5: Unknown or corrupt filesystem |
Also, my root partition is on ReiserFS.
Any help would be appreciated. |

Can you please reboot with the LiveCD again and do mac-fdisk -l /dev/hda ?
I'm assuming you probably meant to put hda4 instead, if you followed the handbook, your swap would be hda3, which would be why it can't be read by yaboot. :) _________________ Gentoo PPC FAQ: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-ppc-faq.xml |

Ahh ok.. I fixed it.
Now I can't install KDE... I go to emerge it all (emerge kde) and then it starts trying to download the files and stuff but then it stops like this
Quote: | !!!! Coultn't download cyrus-sas1-2.1.20.tar.gz. Aborting. |

cyrus-sas1 ? There may be a typo, as it should be cyrus-sasl ( an ell in stead of a one).
I can not spot this 'sas1' in the ebuild I have here (I'm on ~ppc so it is 2.1.21-r2 for me).
If it is a typo from you, sorry, can not help much.
If it was in /usr/portage/dev-libs/cyrus-sasl/* try another emerge --sync.

Yes it was cyrus-sasl
Anyways I can't use emerge --sync or emerge --webrsync since I don't have an internet connection to the laptop.
Although I run emerge --metadata and it says
Quote: | skipping sync
>>>> Updating Portage cache: 100%
* IMPORTANT: 1 config files in /etc need updating
* Type emerge --help config to learn how to update config files. |

I put -sasl in the USE falg and I still got the error.
When I do emerge --metadata and it starts out saying "skipping sync" is it supposed to do that? If not how can I fix it? |

Ah, sorry, sasl is a dep, not controlled by useflag. What exactly are you installing with if you have no network connection? If it's the GRP, I think there was a report that some packages are missing from the G4 GRP CD. If you can't connect it to the network, either copy the data file from another machine that is connected, or download the PPC Universal GRP CD and install that package instead.
When you update metadata, it skips the sync (updating the portage tree). This is normal. _________________ Gentoo PPC FAQ: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-ppc-faq.xml |

I used the PPC Universal CD to install it and now I'm just trying to setup a desktop system... which is KDE in this case. Although I guess I could try GNOME, what is that like? |

Well, GRP is different from the Universal Install CD, the GRP cds have precompiled packages. I'm still not exactly sure what you're doing I guess, if you're not using GRP, you do need a network connection. _________________ Gentoo PPC FAQ: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-ppc-faq.xml |
