Hi,
I've got a Pentium D (2.8Ghz) with a PCI-E GeForce 7300 GS. The Pentium has 1GB of RAM, and the video card has 256MB. I'm running gentoo-sources 2.6.16-r6 , and the unstable nvidia-glx-1.0.8576 . glx-info shows that direct rendering is on, and opengl-update --get-implementation indicates I'm using nvidia . DRI is not enabled in xorg.conf.
I'm getting 1845 fps when I run glxgears (default window size on a 1024x768 16bit screen). Is this normal? I was getting almost this much on a machine with half the muscle. |

I found that when using the nvidia drivers from portage, I always got really bad performance, my 6600GT gave me about 1500fps on glxgears, my 5200Go got about 50fps. I installed them manually from the nvidia site and now the 6600GT gets ~11000fps and the 5200Go gets ~3000fps. Perhaps give that a go. _________________ Desktop: AMD Athlon64 3800+ Venice Core, 2GB PC3200, 2x160GB 7200rpm Maxtor DiamondMax 10, 2x320GB WD 7200rpm Caviar RE, Nvidia 6600GT 256MB

hi there,
have a look here:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-478558-highlight-.html
i have the same problem - unfortunately didnt find your thread first before posting - sorry
as you can see in the thread I posted, the card is OK. i checked using UT2004 in windows and linux.
very odd. either my xorg.conf is faulty, or there is a problem with PCI-E and nvidia drivers |
