|
|
Hello!
This post is perhaps more a general question, but does somebody have running Superkaramba on KDE 3.5.x without any problems?
On my system (32 bit, KDE 3.5.2) I have it running with two themes (Aero and Liquid Weather) and also with only those two it misbehaves. It suddenly freezes and never comes back, and if I install a new theme from kde-look.org's website (.theme files) it simply crashes.
I cannot say that Superkaramba is very stable yet. It even does not behave I used to have beta software on Linux behave (pretty stable but it behaves like a pre-pre-alpha on my two systems.
Am I doing something wrong perhaps? Is there some hint how to make it more stable?
Thanks and regards! _________________ * Toshiba SM30X Notebook, Pentium-M 725 CPU, ATI Radeon 9700, 512MB RAM, 80GB

Same problem here with superkaramba 0.39 (installed via kdeutils) and both aero aio and liquidweather themes, but only on x86, o ppc works great. |

Really unstable on my box, too!
I can successfully load just a couple of monitors, but when I try to load a specific theme (don't remember which, at the moment) it inevitably crashes... _________________ "They exist only so long as the living take no notice."

It works great for me on KDE 3.5.2 and Superkaramba Version 0.39. I am using Liquid Weather and thao_sys_meter2. At the beginning when I was testing several themes it often crashed, but now it is working rock solid. |

Well, then it may be an AERO AIO issue, ill try to use superkaramba without loading it, and lets see qhat happens. |

I used to use superkaramba, but it crashed so many times that I got annoyed and uninstalled it again.
I'll wait untill KDE 4 before I will try it again.
I also wonder why such an unstable application got officially inclued in KDE. |

To include the superkaramba devs in the KDE4 development proces: superkaramba, kicker and the desktop will be replaced with a new bit of software called Plasma.
Plasma is supposed to fix all of the shortcommings of the current architecture (memory and cpu hogging, crashing, etc) and will also have support for Apple's widgets is has features that are common to Apple's dashboard
We'll just have to be patient I guess |

Any idea when we will be able to see and try a first alpha version of KDE? Or is it supposed not to be official until some beta or release candidate?
I would not like to install an early version, but some live cd with it to test it would be great. Just to shorten the time till the final coming out _________________ * Toshiba SM30X Notebook, Pentium-M 725 CPU, ATI Radeon 9700, 512MB RAM, 80GB

First public show of KDE4 is planned for aKademy later this year, I guess you can expect alpha releases before that. |

superkaramba works fine here. I had an issue with the latest liquid weather++, then I went back to older version.
I am running kde 3.5.2, Aero AIO .7, and liquid weather 9.3

I somehow removed superkaramba from my x86 machine and when I went to re-emerge things started to go wonky. I had migrated from the x11-themes/superkaramba to kde-base/superkaramba a while ago and things worked without any problems (so, for me at least, I haven't seen any problems before this recent emerge) but after re-installing I can't seem to get aero ai to run correctly. Liquid Weather ++ runs just fine (better, actually, since this re-install forced me to upgrade to the newest version (12, I think)
Aero is currently giving me problems reminiscent of when I hadn't installed pyqt the first time (primarily, the theme configuration isn't showing up) But I have that installed now. The only other thing that I can think of is that the most recent version of kde-base/superkaramba (which for me is 3.5.3) is pre superkaramba .37, but that doesn't make sense to me. Is there something I'm missing? |

Run SK in a terminal and post the topmost error when you try to open the config menu |

Ok. I ran the program from the terminal and found some interesting things. Firstly, here is the info displayed once I start the theme (there isn't any output before that):
Code: |

Immediately after that I get the following (note that the currently loaded plugin is the one that displays the cpu usage in line-graph form):
Code: |
cpuSpeed : wrong file, trying 'proc/cpuinfo'...
|
This last line actually repeats itself every few seconds. I then tried to load the theme configuration and I get:

You have a problem with the amarok plugin being in the autoswitch list but no longer loadable. I would recommend
rm -rf ~/.aero_aio ~/.superkaramba/aero*. Download and re-install the latest aero aio |

I too have lots of problems with KDE's SuperKaramba 0.39. The only one theme that runs perfectly is LiquidWeather 12.3. As for the other ones, foto, for instance, cannot be displayed more than once on the desktop. If I add foto multiple times nothing happens. Instead it creates a resource file 32185-afoto-1.5b-3-x.rc each time I try to add afoto.
The other applets I tried are Aero AIO, Tube clock, many sensors and other applets. Either they don't run when I try to add them to the desktop or they run but stop immediately. None of the AIO applets I tried ran. For others the "Configure theme" menu is grayed. The only one applets which "Configure theme" is not grayed are Afoto and Liquid Weather.
It's a real mess, frankly.
Things were much better with Superkaramba 0.37/KDE 3.4.3. I've just upgraded KDE to version 3.5 and won't turn back to 3.4.3 since there are a couple of enhancements I like quite much (e.g. bottom panel full transparency, enhanced tooltips for buttons, better HTML rendering in Konqueror...).
Is there something else than SuperKaramba which:
- would allow me to put pictures on the desktop
- has sensors (disks, networks, RAM, CPU)
- has weather and forecast like LW+
- can control my favorite audio player? _________________ Gentoo addict: tomorrow I quit, I promise!... Just one more emerge...

Ya, use the kicker. Just put in another panel and put in the system monitor, a music controller (I'm not sure about the picture thing, but there is probably something out there) |

Well, I'm not fan of kicker in fact. I'm currently running Karamba for a couple of applets. It's a bit better. _________________ Gentoo addict: tomorrow I quit, I promise!... Just one more emerge...
