|
|
Hi all, I've been trying to install Gentoo tonight and I'm learning pretty quickly (I love the command prompt challange of it). There are 2 stumbling blocks I've come across though.....
1) the first time I did a modprobe after boot everything was fine, but now when I boot and run "modprobe 3c59x" I get
"/lib/modules/2.4.19-gentoo-r7/kernel/drivers/net/3c59x.o: init_module : no such device"
2) after setting up ifconfig i get
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:00:DA:8F:61:2A
inet addr:192.168.0.2 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
inet6 addr: fe80::50:ba8f:617a/10 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST NOTRAILERS RUNNING MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:1498792 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:1284980 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:1984 txqueuelen:100
RX bytes:485691215 (463.1 Mb) TX bytes:123951388 (118.2 Mb)
Interrupt:11
3) and finally when I go to compile the kernel with the gentoo-source kernel
"Calculating dependencies !!! Couldn't find match for sys-kernel/gentoo-sources ;aborting"
Any suggestions would be good, I've already looked around the forum and a few guides but couldn't find many answers.... thanks |

Did you emerge rsync first? |

Check /etc/conf.d/net and see if it has the right values for your IP address and the gateway (down at the bottom).
I assume that you do since you have gotten to the emerge sources part, right?
Do this emerge gentoo-suorces and that should get it.

"Did you emerge rsync first?"
It's my understanding from the manual that I don't need to run emerge rsync as I'm using a stage 3 tarball.... but even so I tried and couldn't connect to rsync even after fixing the address and putting in my http proxy address. (HTTP_PROXY: http://autoproxy.uws.edu.au/proxy.pac:3128)
james, I've got the right IP and GW but still can't emerge sources.... damn... thanks anyways.... |

If you have a stage 3 tarball, you have gentoo-sources already loaded in /usr/src/linux. |

By the way, if you're going from stage 3, an emerge rsync --clean shouldn't hurt anything... |
