hello,

I'm using vanilla-sources-2.6.15.6 on amd64 right now and it seems that the usb bluetooth driver is broken. it once worked without any problem but I can't remember which kernel version I was using then and which kernel version made it stop working (at least I'm sure that it was something prior 2.6.15.6). the hardware is okay. I tried the newest release candidate of 2.6.16(-rc5) yesterday and got the same segfault message in dmesg when plugging the usb bluetooth dongle in:

Code:

Bluetooth: HCI USB driver ver 2.9
hcid[7318]: segfault at 0000000000000008 rip 00002aaaaabcf080 rsp 00007fffff806930 error 4
usbcore: registered new driver hci_usb

does anybody have the same problem? patch? ;)

thx and bye.

I have an AMD64 system with a Bluetooth dongle and have no problems with segfaults in dmesg. I'm using 2.6.15-r7 from Gentoo Sources.

I've always wondered what's the right place for posting a (vanilla) kernel bug!?...

I found this in relation to the problem:

http://www.ussg.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0603.3/1667.html

The reply to that thread says to add pci=assign-busses to the kernel boot options. I tried this, but had no success. :(

HTH someone else.

You should have a look before the segfault message. Try to add hald at boot, it can help if it is right owner problem .

nb : i've got the same problem and hald has do the job.

edit : or, simply, just put in your /etc/portage/package.use the following net-wireless/bluez-utils -dbus, then emerge -av bluez-utils.

Thanks, j_c_p! Building "net-wireless/bluez-utils" without support for dbus or using tle latest and greatest "net-wireless/bluez-utils" version (with and without dbus support) makes bluetooth working flawlessly. Never thought about that... :?
