Are you sure it's not a problem with you DNS resolution? A good test is to ping some site, and see how long it takes to start returning pings. I have seen this a few times with friends broadband connections. All of a sudden resolution takes forever, and then when it resolves pages load up instantly.

A way to solve this is to turn off your modem and rounter, and hope when it comes back online it gives you new DNS servers. Another way is to specify alternative DNS servers for your system to use.

thinkin bout it I had a problem with ubuntu similar to this,http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=166989 I would try to apt-get something but apt would time out, unless I would head to the repos url with konqueror and it would work, same thing happening here, I.m using opera and gmail, google and lots of other sites dont work, but if i try them in konqueror 1st then try in opera the come up instantly.... Not sure how to correct the problem tho.

javascript and java are completely unrelated (excepting name and some syntax facets)

I was having a similar problem with firefox. Try going to https://mail.google.com instead of http://mail.google.com

It worked for me.

Better late than never, right?
