I put gentoo on a dell latitude XPi latop with the 2.6 kernel. Dell says that my laptop has a ESS 1887 soundcard so I made the snd-es18xx module.
When I modprobe I get:
Quote: | FATAL: Error inserting snd_es18xx (/lib/modules/2.6.0-gentoo/kernel/sound/isa/snd-es18xx.ko) No such device |
Any ideas on what I can do? Or if I can cat /proc/something so see if linux is even picking it up?
I have isa and isapnp support in the kernel and dmesg tells me that isapnp didn't find anything. (Later found that the sound card isn't pnp) Any ideas? I think I might have to pass options to the module but I'm not sure how to do that.
Thank for the help! |

No go with oss either. Between this and the problem I'm having with gnome-pilot on my desktop I'm begining to miss the simplisity of Windows. Sure Linux maybe better but whats the point if you can't get your hardware/software to work? |

Figured it out. It was a fluke but I discovered that Dell has set the sound card to ioport 0x0230. The asla drivers didn't check that so all is well now. |
