Hey,
After I upgraded to Xorg 7, tvtime and totem (with xine backend) both crash as I start them. Below is the verbose output for each program. I believe it is an XVideo issue based on the output from tvtime and the fact that totem will start fine when I disable the loading of "extmods" in xorg.conf. In totem the problem seems to be with the loading of the logo since if I rename the logo file it will start up (without the logo). Also, if I start totem with a video file then it will run fine as well. Starting totem without a file (normal logo screen) or with an audio file (with or without visual effects enabled) will crash it. I have also included the output of xvinfo below. Any input is greatly appreciated since I have tried every trick I know.
Relevant hardware:

| I am thinking my problem has something to do with the two unnamed attributes at the bottom of my ATI card's xvinfo entry that have a range of 0 to 0. Is there a way to configure xvideo manually to delete those attributes? Or another solution? |

Rather interesting update to my problem...
Totem will run normally in any startup situation if i already have gxine running.
This problem just gets stranger... |

I have the same problem, totem-1.4 crashes immediately after starting, but if I start gxine first, totem starts fine. However, this is on an i855GM, so I'm not sure if you're on the right track with the ATI driver features causing the problem. Earlier versions of totem worked fine on the same version of X (7.1), so I'm thinking this is a bug in totem-1.4. I'll use gxine for the meantime and hope an update to totem is on the way soon...

| I'm having the same problem, the issue must reside in Xorg 7.0 and the totem logo though. For me at least, starting totem with a parameter to load a video file works fine, it's just when starting totem without parameters it crashes. Also, running totem in Xgl works fine and the logo is displayed properly. So the problem lies somewhere in Xorg 7.0's Xvideo. I hope that someone will be able to get more into the bottom of this. |
